Recent study shows that chronic insomnia may be a symptom of psychological disorder like depression and anxiety. Over 25,000 Norwegian adults have been surveyed and researchers have found that those who are chronic insomniac were also commonly suffering from anxiety disorder or depression. Those who had insomnia in the first cycle of the research had higher chances of having an anxiety disorder by the next survey done after a decade. It was observed that those who suffered from chronic insomnia during the first survey had a greater chance of having anxiety problems during the second survey. The results indicate that depression and insomnia usually co-exist despite having no proof that insomnia could be a risk factor of depression. Neckelmann suggests that treatment for chronic insomnia must be sought and to be evaluated for any possibilities of depression or an anxiety disorder. read more
