Anxiety Disorder News - • Depression Urges Chronic Insomnia (Turks.US)

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

Recent study shows that chronic insomnia may be a symptom of psychological disorder like depression and anxiety. Over 25,000 Norwegian adults have been surveyed and researchers have found that those who are chronic insomniac were also commonly suffering from anxiety disorder or depression. Those who had insomnia in the first cycle of the research had higher chances of having an anxiety disorder by the next survey done after a decade. It was observed that those who suffered from chronic insomnia during the first survey had a greater chance of having anxiety problems during the second survey. The results indicate that depression and insomnia usually co-exist despite having no proof that insomnia could be a risk factor of depression. Neckelmann suggests that treatment for chronic insomnia must be sought and to be evaluated for any possibilities of depression or an anxiety disorder. read more

Anxiety Disorder News - McNerney still trying to save VA hospital (Oakland Tribune)

Monday, July 16th, 2007

Jerry McNerney made another push to save Livermore’s endangered veterans hospital before a final decision is made in the near future. McNerney, D-Pleasanton, met with Veterans Affairs Secretary James Nicholson in Washington on Thursday to discuss what the future may hold for both the Livermore site and the French Camp Outpatient Clinic — the only VA health care facility in San Joaquin County. The East Bay rookie congressman is proposing that with the number of injured and traumatized veterans coming home from the Middle East increasing daily, Livermore’s veterans hospital could find new uses, including possibly as a post-traumatic stress disorder clinic. Along with the proposed Livermore enhancements, McNerney added that he believes the French Camp Outpatient Clinic also should expand services in conjunction with the nearby San Joaquin General Hospital and meet the need for PTSD-specific treatment. Although McNerney acknowledged Nicholson did not seem enamored with keeping the outpatient facility open at Livermore, McNerney said he will still fight for it.
