HOUSTON — Seven million people suffer from OCD — obsessive-compulsive disorder. A Houston conference this weekend is helping children with OCD learn how to control it and ignore their obsessions, KPRC Local 2, Your Education Station, reported Friday. Gallery Furniture’s Jim “Mattress Mac” McIngvale and his wife Linda funded this year’s annual conference so teachers, nurses and counselors could learn how to detect the disorder earlier in children. Obsessive-compulsive disorder is an anxiety disorder and is characterized by recurrent, unwanted thoughts and/or repetitive behaviors, according to the National Institute of Mental Health. There is some data that suggests that acupuncture can be useful for knee pain, or back pain, or arthritis. But itâs hard for docs to really prescribe alternative medicines because we are not taught to understand how sticking a needle into someone’s head could help migraines. Chiropractors can help with lower back pain, but itâs dangerous when these doctors tell you that they can heal anything serious like asthma or high blood pressure there is no data to suggest this. The problem is when people diagnose themselves â” they don’t get a medical diagnosis for their ailment. They were the last words Marilyn Davis of Hollywood heard from her daughter Deane. The next time Davis heard about her 37-year-old daughter was when police called Wednesday to tell her they found Deane Nandi Davis’ body — badly decomposing in a motel room in a rundown part of town, along with an older man they described as “incoherent. Marilyn Davis had gone to the police a week after Deane stopped calling. Police say they found Deane’s body after the motel manager discovered a man he said was her roommate unconscious on the floor and called them. From what her mother and friends say, the man appears to be the latest in a string of unhelpful people in Deane’s tumultuous life. She called the police when Deane started pulling knives from drawers and threatened harm to herself in November. read more
