A couple of weeks ago, I was experiencing a little anxiety because it was time for my annual evaluation, but I wasn’t sure when my boss was going to schedule a time to meet. Most older adults with an anxiety disorder had it when they were younger, but how and when anxiety appears when they are older is distinctly different. Physical symptoms such as fatigue, headaches, muscle tension and gastrointestinal problems often accompany a generalized anxiety disorder. A higher prevalence of medical conditions, higher use of prescription medications and concern about physical problems can make separating out a medical condition from the physical symptoms of an anxiety disorder more difficult. The good news is generalized anxiety disorders are highly treatable, so if you find yourself worrying excessively about something and you can’t seem to get it out of your mind for weeks, it’s probably time to talk to your doctor. read more
